Down Filled Upholstery Cleaning is a ChemDry Specialty
When we refer to down filled upholstery cleaning, we mostly mean upholstered cushions with a feather filling. In the case of most upholstery, the filling of cushions is usually a foam to create a tight shaped cushion. Alternatively, using down filling gives the cushions a looser feel and many will argue that it also leads to a more comfortable sofa. It is also true to say that the cleaning of this kind of lounge suite is more complicated. Our experienced lounge cleaners are able to navigate this cleaning hurdle with ease, however. For us it is just one more sofa type that our competition will avoid and we take on.
Why is it tricky to clean down filled fabric?
It can be easy to clean down filled upholstery, provided the technician uses a low moisture upholstery cleaning system. Normal steam cleaning may allow moisture to penetrate the down filling, causing it to clump together. A further issue that may follow is mould incubation inside the filling. Once this takes hold, the cushions may well need replacement.
At ChemDry, we have 3 options to clean this type of fabric. Our technicians have the skill and knowledge to decide which method of cleaning would be the safest and most effective.
- Dry/Wet cleaning of fabrics is the safest option and involves a combination of hot water extraction and dry cleaning.
- ChemDry has a low moisture carbonated upholstery cleaning method that is suitable for the majority of down filled upholstery.
- When down filled cushions are very dirty, they may need repeated cleaning with more heat and water. In this instance our technicians may remove the covers, clean them and then put them back onto the cushion.
